Our Mission
The Wisconsin Sport Specialization Research Team is dedicated to understanding how patterns of youth sport participation influence the health, well-being, and athletic development of young athletes.
This site features an online version of the Wisconsin Sport Specialization Questionnaire (WISSQ), a validated patient-reported outcome measure designed to assess levels of sport specialization among high school athletes. You’ll also find resources on using and scoring the WISSQ, publications from our research team, and more information about our ongoing research.
Through the WISSQ, our goal is to provide researchers, clinicians, coaches, and families with a reliable tool to better understand an athlete’s level of sport specialization. We hope this work will help advance research and inform safer, more effective approaches to youth sport participation.
Ultimately, our research aims to support positive athletic experiences while helping reduce the risk of sport-related injuries and burnout.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns about our work in youth sport specialization. We appreciate your interest in our research!
